On Friday, the tribal people of Moongil Madai Kudai forest area in Madukkarai had alerted the forest department of a group of college students who had illegally ventured into the restricted forest area and allegedly consuming liquor.
Based on the tip-off, the forest guard Chola Mannan (43) went on a patrol and located the students inside the forest area and warned the college students to leave the premises. Meanwhile, one of the student named Anbu alias Arul Kumar (23) from Alandurai, who was allegedly in an inebriated state engaged in a heated argument with the forest guard and thrashed him on his face and broke his nose.
Seeing the forest guard bleed profusely, the students fled from the spot. The forest guard later lodged a complaint at Karunya Police station.
Meanwhile, a team of police led by Inspector Thangam arrested Arul Kumar and booked him under IPC sections 294 b,323,353,506 (1) and remanded him.
