Coimbatore : Ahead of the Vinayagar Chathurthi celebrations in the city, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has issued guidelines for immersion of idols in water bodies.
A press release by TNPCB, has noted that only idols made of raw clay and idols made of other eco-friendly materials like tuber flour or sago will be allowed to be immersed in water bodies. Idols coated with non-soluble colors and chemicals will not be permitted for immersion.
Toxic or non-biodegradable paints and chemicals should not be used, the release noted.
The press release further stated that the scheduled place and time allotted for immersion by the district administration should be adhered.
