Coimbatore : A total of 1543 laptops were distributed to students of Corporation and Government higher secondary schools at an event headed by Minister S.P. Velumani here on Friday.
Coimbatore : A total of 1543 laptops were distributed to students of Corporation and Government higher secondary schools at an event headed by Minister S.P. Velumani here on Friday.
Out of the 1543 laptops, 740 laptops were distributed to students in SRP Ammaniammal girls Higher Secondary school, 579 laptops to students of RS Puram girls Higher Secondary school and 224 laptops were given to Boys high school. The Minister for Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme and Municipal Administration SP Velumani distributed the laptops to the students and wished them luck.
While addressing the media, the Minister said, "The scheme of distributing free laptops for students was ideated by 'Amma'. She wished and envisioned a great career for students pursuing higher education in government schools and thus curated 14 such special schemes for education during her regime as Chief Minister."
He also noted that government has been providing free coaching classes for IAS examination in Coimbatore for the benefit of the students from low economic backgrounds.
Later, the Minister took part in a Bhoomi Pooja event and laid the foundation stone for constructing an auditorium at Ward No: 89 of Kamatchiamman temple grounds in Sundakkamuthur at a cost of Rs.16 lakhs from MLA development fund. He also provided Rs.5 lakhs for building additional rooms in the library at Ward No: 90 in Kovaipudur.
The Minister also distributed safety equipments like head gear, masks and gloves to 11 sanitary workers of CCMC.
Corporation Commissioner, Sravan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Prasanna Ramasamy, Zonal Assistant Commissioner, AJ Senthilarasan, TR Ravi, Executive Engineer S. Ravichandran, District Education Officer K. Palani, other officials and students were present.
