Coimbatore : The Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries, M C Sampath along with the Minister for Municipal Administration, S P Velumani launched the 'Aerospace Tool Design and Manufacturing Program' which is a joint initiative by Boeing, Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd. and Learning Links Foundation.
Coimbatore : The Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries, M C Sampath along with the Minister for Municipal Administration, S P Velumani launched the 'Aerospace Tool Design and Manufacturing Program' which is a joint initiative by Boeing, Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd. and Learning Links Foundation.
The inaugural ceremony of Aerospace Tool Design and Manufacturing Program, a Skill India Initiative supported by the Boeing company was held at the GKD Auditorium at Arasur, today. The program is designed to train students on technical skills required to work in the aerospace tool manufacturing sector.
Speaking at the event, Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, CMD - LMW stated that the program is the first of its kind being launched in Tamil Nadu's defence corridor and aims to further strengthen the aerospace eco system in the country in line with the Government of India's Skill India Initiative. "We will ensure that the skilled work force that gets trained here will be able to deliver the best quality products for the aerospace industry in the country," stated Sanjay.
Ashwani Bhargava, the Director of the Supply Chain Management, Boeing India Pvt. Ltd. reiterated about the company's commitment to address the need for industrial training and skill development in India's aerospace sector. "The aerospace industry is different from other sectors because quality and precision is required to manufacture tools for aerospace and it should be immaculate. Such training programs can create quality skilled personnel and once it happens, Boeing will be able to outsource tools and accessories from India which currently is being imported on a large scale," opined Ashwani Bhargava.
Lauding the efforts of LMW to conduct this program, the Minister for Industries said, "Chennai with all its auto mobile manufacturing units has become the Detroit of India. Coimbatore with all its potential will become the aerospace hub of India and this program is a beginning in that direction since Coimbatore is already a part of the defence corridor and many industrial units are already manufacturing components and accessories for the defence sector. LMW and L&T with their upcoming aerospace tools manufacturing units will aid the region to become an aerospace hub. The program will also bridge the gap between skill requirement and skill shortage in the aerospace sector," he added.
S P Velumani, the Minister for Municipal Administration talked about the development in Coimbatore on the industrial front. "Infrastructure development in Coimbatore is at an all-time high. Airport expansion, development of roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic and the metro rail project which is at the feasibility study stage will make way for better industrial growth in the region. Proposal for a corridor connecting the Western Districts of Tamil Nadu is on the cards. Coimbatore will develop into a aerospace hub in the future and such training programs will help develop people with required skill sets in that direction," opined S P Velumani.
N Muruganandham, Principal Secretary to TN Govt. Department of Industries, District Collector K Rajamani, K Soundhar Rajhan , Director-Operations, LMW, and Sudeep Dube, Associate Partner of Learning Links Foundation were also present at the event.
