Muharram Celebrations and its significance

There are only two festivals celebrated by Muslims as allowed by Allah and shown to the people by Allah's rasool Muhammad Nabi (Sal). One of the months of Arabic calendar is Ramzan during which the Muslins all over the world observe fast and the fast is subsequently broken on the first day of the 10th month called Shavval.

The second festival is the haj which is observed in the 12th month of the Arabic Calendar. This is  observed for three days. On these two days fasting is prohibited by Nabi (Sal). On these two days Muslims should eat after prayers and  should donate food to the poor. Also, Muslims should help those who are in need of money. Muhammaed Nabi preached that both these festivals should be to be celebrated by wearing new clothes.

Speciality of the Muharram month

Moharram is the first month of the Arabic calendar. This is the day on which Allah made the cruel ruler Brown drown in the sea and gave the victory to Moosa the previous messenger. Nabi taught the Muslims to fast on tenth day of Muharram. Nabi also insisted that if he is alive the next year the fasting should be observed on two days. But Nabi died the same year.

This fasting is called Ashira Fast. Muhammed Nabi has once said the sins committed by the people in the previous year will be forgiven if they fast on 9th and 10th day or on 10th and 11th day of the Moharram month. Muslims from around the world should fast on these two days. Thus several Muslims observe a fast during Muharram month in a belief that Allah will forgive the sins that they have committed in the past one year.
