Coimbatore: Southern Railways has cancelled several Coimbatore bound trains from August 17th to 21s citing railway maintenance work being carried out in the Erode section of the Railways.
Coimbatore: Southern Railways has cancelled several Coimbatore bound trains from August 17th to 21s citing railway maintenance work being carried out in the Erode section of the Railways.
In particular the Coimbatore Express, Intercity Express and the weekly night train, and all passenger trains, which are run between Coimbatore to Chennai have been cancelled due to the ongoing maintenance work.
The Southern Railway has also cancelled the Jan shatabdi, and Semmozhi expresses for five days.
While these trains can be operated in an alternate route via Pollachi, Palani and Dindigul., the Railway authoriites have not come forward to operate these trains in the alternative routes, which would simply mean that there wouldn't be any train services between Coimbatore and Delta districts for five straight days.
In the meanwhile, the Ernakulam- Karaikal, Mangalore- Chennai Egmore trains are being operated in an alternative route, which makes the train users complain that the Kongu region is being given a raw deal by the Southern Railway authorities.
Similarly, the Chennai - Coimbatore - Chennai Coimbatore express can be operated between Chennai and Salem for five days. But the Southern Railways did not implement it.
The Coimbatore express was not cancelled even during the rain deluge that occurred earlier.
Meanwhile, the daily Intercity Express between Coimbatore-Chennai-Coimbatore has also been cancelled. But the West Coast Express that operates after the Intercity Express is not cancelled. Mumbai Kurla Express has been cancelled for five days.
"The fact that most of the trains departing from Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode are cancelled by the Southern Railways only shows that the Southern Railways is neglecting the Kongu region" complain the train travellers of Coimbatore.
The cancellation of night time trains like Semmozhi Express, Coimbatore - Chennai weekly express can not be accepted as the maintenance work will be done during e day time only.
Importantly the trains running from Kerala to Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode are not affected during the period of maintenance work during the same period.
It is to note that the trains such as West Coast Express, Alappuzha - Dhanbad Express, Bangalore Intercity, Raptisagar Express, Sabari Express and Mumbai Express will be operated in the same route during the day time without any harm.

Train No. 12679 Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MGR Central - Coimbatore Inter City Express Journey commencing on 17th,18th,19th,20th and 21st August 2019 (total of 5 services) is cancelled.
Train No. 12680 Coimbatore - Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MGR Central InterCity Express Journey commencing on 17th,18th,19th,20th and 21st August 2019 (total of 5 services) is cancelled.
