Coimbatore: Students of the Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) who have a staged sit in protest against the Center's National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill continued with a candle light vigil yesterday night.
Tamil Nadu Medical Students Association has organised protests in nine Government Medical Colleges in Coimbatore, Salem, Theni, Trichy, Kanyakumari, Dharmapuri condemning the implementation of the National Medical Commission Bill. The protesters demanded that the Centre withdraw the bill stating that it will affect the future of the medical doctors.
In the meantime, the doctors and students of the CMCH staged a sit-in protest in the premises of the hospital yesterday morning. They carried placards and banners denouncing the corporate privatization of the medical education, and urging to repeal the Draft National Policy 2019. They held banners against NEXT too.
Following this, the protesters staged a dharna in front of the South Tahsildar Office in Coimbatore and continued with their protest. Subsequently, they held candles and continued a sit-in protest yesterday night in the premises of CMCH
Government doctors took part in the protest to bring their demands to the attention of the Govt.
It is to be noted that the protest that began yesterday morning against the National Medical Commission continued till night.
