In recent times, it was found out that many college students in Coimbatore district are using drugs like Cannabis, and there are many gangs selling theses drugs targeting college students.
The city police have been actively working to eradicate the sale of banned items such as Cannabis, and other narcotics in Coimbatore district based on the orders of Coimbatore Police Commissioner Sumit Saran IPS and Deputy Commissioner L. Balaji Saravanan IPS.
An exclusive Police squad is being deployed to monitor the drug addicts and suppliers near the colleges in the city.
Meanwhile, the Ramanathapuram police received a tip-off that the sale of Cannabis targeting the college students in Sungam was going on. Following which a team of Ramanathapuram Police led by Inspector Latha Sub Inspector Gnanasekaran comprising Constable Mahendran, Shanmugam, Anand nabbed five youth in two different places.
The arrested were identified as Uday Vikram (19), Marimuthu (20) who were arrested nearby the private college in Sungam and Vijayakumar (23), Naveen Kumar (23), Koushik (22) who were arrested in the Sungam Bypass.
The police seized 3 kgs of Cannabis and Rs 2,250 from them.
