Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a female Gaur succumbed unable to give birth to her calf near the river side at Puliyamarathukuzhi today in Mettupalayam.
Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a female Gaur succumbed unable to give birth to her calf near the river side at Puliyamarathukuzhi today in Mettupalayam.
The Gaur was initially spotted by a farmer who was on his way to a shop in the area. Noticing the Gaur collapsing near the river, he had informed foresters who arrived at the spot.
Before the team could arrive, the Gaur had already died after the fall. A post mortem was initiated by Dr. Rajeshkumar in the presence of foresters and activists.
The dead foetus was removed from the Gaur during post mortem and both the mother and the unborn calf were buried nearby.
The incident had moved many foresters emotionally leaving them in tears.
