As heavy rains caused severe devastation to the region, hundreds of people have lost their homes and agricultural lands owing to flash floods and landslides.
Several political leaders have visited the flood-hit areas in the district in the past week.
L. Murugan, Vice Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes visited the affected areas near Avalanche including Kuruthukuli, Kaatu Kuppai and Aatuppaayil today and took stock of the situation.
Addressing the media after his visit, L. Murugan said "The district administration has been attending to the needs of the people accommodated in the relief camps. All basic facilities have been provided to them in a timely manner. As the rains have receded and the relief operations are ongoing at a faster pace, people from the relief camps are headed towards their home and returning back to normalcy."
He also added that the district administration is collecting data on people who have lost their homes and farmlands completely.
Alternative dwellings will be provided to them after a consolidated report is prepared.
