Coimbatore: Students from the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) staged a protest against the Centre’s National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill and the move to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI) with NMC.
Coimbatore: Students from the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) staged a protest against the Centre’s National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill and the move to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI) with NMC.
The Bill allows the final examination of the MBBS students to act as the entrance examination NEXT for higher studies. This has instigated protests across the nation by all medical college students.
Over 250 students participated in the protest comprising of junior doctors as well as other medical students. They demanded that the National Medical Commission Bill should not be implemented. "The NEXT examination and the National Education Policy draft must be withdrawn. The Government should not allow the risk of quacks emerging which can lead to loss of lives. We are protesting to make the Government notice our demands and take appropriate action," stated the protesters.
