C. Vijayabaskar, Minister for Health and Family welfare and S.P. Velumani, Minister for Municipal Administration were the Guests of Honour at the event.
Speaking on the occassion the Health minister said, “Families of organ donors have to be honoured, they are the real heroes. Families of organ donors will be given priority in government jobs and other benefits from the state. Tamil Nadu's share of 1297 donors and 7568 beneficiaries have been a good headway made in three years as far as organ donation is concerned. As TamilNadu has been a model state in organ transplantation the. Chief minister Medical insurance scheme should be extended to benefit every one needing organ transplantaion".
"TamilNadu has been leading the country in organ transplantation for the last four years and the state has also been awarded as the Best performing state in the country. After signing an MoU with the Australian government 4301 deaths have been reduced in trauma because we got an Air ambulance from Australia” Vijayabaskar added.
Vijayabaskar also talked about the successful hand transplant surgery done to a patient at Stanley Medical college Hospital, Chennai, who lost both his hands in an accident.
"This is the first of its kind at Government hospital in India" said the State Health Minister.
S. P. Velumani, Minister for Municipal administration stated that Coimbatore will reach the first place overtaking Chennai in organ transplantation soon.
"Tamil Nadu has been a model state and the government has been giving lot of benefits. 286 crores fund has been alloted to Coimbatore Government Hospital. A flyover for 9.5 kms at Avinashi road will be constructed for which the design is ready. Rs.200 crore will be allocated soon for airport expansion. Infrastructure development will help enhance Health care development in the city. “ said S. P. Velumani.
District Collector K. Rajamani, Dr.S.Raja Sabapathy of Ganga Hospital, R.V. Ramani of Arvind Eye hospital, Dr. B.Asokan, Dean, CMCH, R. Varadarajan, Chairman, CII Coimbatore Zone and doctors from various hospitals and members of CII Coimbatore were present at the event.
