Coimbatore : “Relief works in the flood-affected areas have been carried out on a war footing by active coordination of various departments” said SP Velumani, Minister for Rural development 

SP Velumani, who inspected the flood affected areas near Moongilmadaikuttai, Pachinampathi in Thondamuthur Panchayat and Sirupaalam near Mundanthurai dam in Perumalkovilpatti also distributed rice, sugar, milk powder, biscuit, clothes, pillows and bedsheets to 65 families who have been affected by the rains. 

While addressing the press, Minister SP Velumani said, "Chief Minister Edapadi Palanisamy has been continuing with Amma's legacy and continuing with the excellent welfare schemes introduced by the late leader. The Chief Minister conducted a special meeting with the Ministers and the District Collectors as soon as he received the heavy rain forecast. He also advised the national and state agencies to stay on alert".



“Due to precautions, taken no major damages due to rains were experienced in Coimbatore. The waterlogging in the roads was also promptly cleared out by the authorities under war footing to decongest the traffic. The people in low-lying areas were also immediately evacuated to nearby schools and marriage halls to ensure their safety."

The minister added that relief works are being undertaken by the revenue department, rural development and Fire services personnel under a monitoring officer. Orders have been issued to take up repair works of Government schools, building and roads.
