Coimbatore : Padmanaban Gopalan, the Founder of the 'No Food Waste' NGO based in Coimbatore received the prestigious National Youth Award 2016-17 at a ceremony in New Delhi on Monday, in recognition of his outstanding work in the field of national development and social service.
Coimbatore : Padmanaban Gopalan, the Founder of the 'No Food Waste' NGO based in Coimbatore received the prestigious National Youth Award 2016-17 at a ceremony in New Delhi on Monday, in recognition of his outstanding work in the field of national development and social service.
At the event, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports conferred Padmanaban Gopalan with the National Youth Award 2016-17 which is regarded to be one of the nation's prestigious awards. He was conferred with a medal, citation and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.
Expressing his joy over being conferred the nation's prestigious award, Padmanaban said, "I am overwhelmed to receive this prestigious National Youth award for 2016-17. This is the nation's highest recognition for youth in community development." He added, "I dedicate this to all the volunteers, team, friends, supporters and well wishers of my initiative 'No Food Waste.' I am here, just as a representative of all of them."
The National Youth Award is an award from the Govt. of India conferred on young men and women and voluntary organizations, every year, in recognition of their outstanding work in the field of National Development and Social Service. The award is conferred for identifiable excellent work by youth in different fields of development activities and social service such as health, research and innovation, culture, promotion of human rights, art and literature, tourism, traditional medicine, active citizenship, community service, sports and academic excellence and smart learning.
Earlier in March, Padmanaban's NGO 'No Food Waste' received the Commonwealth Youth Award 2019 for the Asia Region at a ceremony held in Commonwealth’s Headquarters in London.
Padmanaban Gopalan, is an Indian Social Entrepreneur and works in the area of Waste Management, Hunger and Urban Sanitation and Development. He is an ambassador of the Swaccha Bharat Abhiyaan. His NGO 'No Food Waste' focuses on collecting surplus food from weddings, parties and other places and distribute them to the needy. As per Padmanaban's report, nearly 900 people are supplied food every day across 10 cities.
