In MTP, acres of agricultural land, cattle and houses have been inundated, after more than 80,000 cubic feet of water was released from Pillur dam to Bhavani river. While in the district of the Nilgiris, landslides and soil erosion has caused severe devastation. Hundreds of people have lost their house and property, owing to historic rainfall in the district, especially at the Avalanche which recorded around 2300 mm rainfall in 72 hours.

"Several hundreds of people living along the river and in low-lying areas have lost their agricultural lands, homes and cattle to the devastation. People from.flood-hit areas in MTP have been accomodated in five relief camps and are being provided with basic amenities like water, food, biscuits, pillows, refreshments and clothing", opined MP A. Raja through a release.
He urged that the State government has to expedite the process of rescue operations and ensure due compensation to the affected.
He has also mentioned that "As the magnitude of devastation is beyond words. I have written to the Centre to depute National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) forces to aid the State rescue team in rescue operations, on war footing."
He apprised that his party cadres have been working round-the-clock in rescue operations. And, their party President will be visiting the flood-hit areas in Mettupalayam and the Nilgiris, today.
