Coimbatore : Reviewing the flood preparations of the Coimbatore District, Minister for Urban Administration and Rural Development S.P. Velumani said that new houses would be constructed for the flood affected victims living alongside the Bhavani River in Mettupalayam, before the advent of next floods.

The minister was in the city to attend a review meeting at the District Collectorate on Saturday.
Talking at the meeting, he said that a tree acre land has already been allotted by the State to construct new houses for victims adding that a sum of Rs. 25 crores has been earmarked for the project.
“The project began last year when the area was flooded and it would be complete before the next flooding,” he said.
He further advised officials to strictly follow the rain water harvesting model in Coimbatore, failing which officials would be prone for action. Talking about the NIHS colony fly over, he informed that a meeting was to be held in Chennai soon.
District Collector K. Rajamani, Commissioner of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Sravan Kumar Jatavat and other officials attended the meeting.
