Coimbatore city has been experiencing incessant heavy rains for the past five days which resulted in the flooding of Noyyal river.
The gushing waters flooding from the River Noyyal has reportedly washed away the bridge connecting Singanallur - Vellalur which has created a sense of agony among the residents.
N. Karthik MLA of Singanallur Assembly urged the district authorities to expedite immediate rescue operations in the area and expedite measures for the construction of a new bridge replacing the old one.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the spot N. Karthik said that " The bridge which was washed away is a vital link connecting Singanallur and Vellalur and comes under the Singanallur assembly segment. The condition of the bridge was in a terrible state and even after repeated petitions demanding reconstruction of the bridge, the apathetic attitude of the authorities led to the collapse of the bridge due to the recent rains and flooding”.
