A documentary titled "G.D Naidu: The Edison of India" which is based on the life of Gopalaswamy Doraiswamy Naidu (G.D Naidu), an Indian inventor and engineer known as the 'Edison of India' has won the best film award in the Science & Technology category in the 66th National Awards.

The famous scientist G.D.Naidu hailed from Coimbatore, and documentary concentrates on G.D Naidu's survival in the bombing of Stuttgart in World War II, and details how a family of entrepreneurs had sheltered and saved his life.
The film directed by K Ranjith Kumar has won the Best Film award on Science & Technology category in the 66th National Awards.
Speaking on the movie that is all set to release on Monday in Coimbatore, Akhila Shanmugham, one of the trustees of G.D. Naidu Charities, said that “the award for the movie is recognition to the late G.D Naidu”.
The Film Division of India allots funds to make documentaries and Director K. Ranjith Kumar expressed his desire to make one on late G.D. Naidu and wrote a letter to Naidu's family and came down to Coimbatore and shot the film after their approval.
He then interviewed several people and examined the works of G.D. Naidu. It is to be noted that the 58 minutes movie was taken in 2018 and screened in Germany recently.
