While, the over enthusiasm of some mischievous elements has led to the fake news going viral in the social media platforms, it has also disturbed the peace of people living around the Siruvani river basin.
At least four fake videos of gushing waterfalls and overflowing reservoirs which were taken out of context from Nilgiris, China and two more unknown locations are being shared by these mischievous elements after claiming to be taken in Siruvani and Kovai Kutralam.
“When people are dying because of flashfloods and heavy rains all over the country, it is disheartening to see such fake videos spreading and creating panic in social media. The mischief mongers fail to realize that such videos can trigger panic button among the people who are living in the vicinity of rivers and dams” said a Social activist, who demanded police action against the mischief mongers.
