The wake of the 9th of August was not so easy for tree cutters and inter department staff deployed for the job as they were in for tough job all over the city in removing fallen trees to ease traffic in the early hours on Friday.
The 130 mm rainfall that fell on Thursday was solely responsible for bringing down nine trees on road sides in areas including Sungam Bypass Road, Velandipalayam, Thadagam Road, Race Course and Rainbow here.
As many as 35 staff from various government departments including Revenue, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, National and State Highways, Public Works Department, Fire and Safety Department, Police Department and members of NGO were deployed to clear fallen trees.
“The team was split into smaller groups and sent to all the areas of emergencies. Work was in full swing throughout Friday. Though more than ten trees fell, we focused only on the trees that fell on roads creating traffic,” said K. Syed, from Osai.
He further informed that most of the trees that fell were in a decomposed state at the root adding that they would have fallen in no time.
“Now we are advising people to cut down trees that seem like falling. Because it is better to remove them them before they could fall on some people or house and create more damage,” he added.
Though there was ample man power, lack of cutter machines proved costly for the team as the work was delayed.
