Coimbatore: The District Collector, K Rajamani, has issued a flood alert to those living on the coastal region of River Noyyal since 4650 cubic feet of water inflow has been recorded in the river. Traffic has been disrupted since two bridges have been submerged.

Heavy torrential downpour has lashed the Coimbatore district for the past two days, owing to which River Noyyal is experiencing a surplus water inflow, leaving the Noyyal River bridge on the Vellalur-Singanallur road submerged. Water has been overflowing at several feet above the bridge. As a result, there is traffic congestion on the Singanallur-Vellalur road and traffic has been diverted for about 10 kms. The public have been surprised to see water flowing above the bridge, an occurrence that is being witnessed after 10 years.
Meanwhile, traffic has also been on that road also affected for the second day on the Ondipudur-Pattanam road with the bridge there also submerged. Motorists were diverted to another route for several kms.
