Coimbatore: With heavy rain lashing Coimbatore this past week, normal life has been disrupted in the city with houses in various localities of the city being flooded. Residents are reportedly finding it difficult to shift to safer places.
Coimbatore: With heavy rain lashing Coimbatore this past week, normal life has been disrupted in the city with houses in various localities of the city being flooded. Residents are reportedly finding it difficult to shift to safer places.
Tamil Nadu has been experiencing incessant rains for the past two days, now. Water inflow is higher in many areas in Coimbatore district owing to the heavy rains. Due to the torrential downpour, low lying areas in Nagarajapuram near Coimbatore were flooded, leaving residents stranded indoors with no way out to to get to safer zones. Firefighters have been informed who in turn have alerted the District Officer.
Subsequently, firefighters from the south zone and north zone led by the District Officer Balasubramanian arrived at the flooded areas. A team of 25 firefighters including station officers Muthu Kumar, Selva Mohan, leaders Karupusamy and Sasikumar have been rescuing those trapped in residential areas.
After an hour of struggle, firefighters rescued over 50 people, including children, women and those unable to walk. Apart from Nagarajapuram, it has been reported that many other residential areas in the city have also been flooded.
