The District Collector, Palanisamy has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the city after overnight rains belted down in the city. The Noyyal river passing through Tirupur is also flooded and several water channels are seen frothing up after untreated effluents are mixed up in the floods.

The public allege that, taking advantage of the situation, garment and bleaching units are releasing effluents from their factories directly into the water channels. The water is foaming up and causing environmental and health hazards, they opine.
