Due to which the student community have been put to extreme hardship, as they found it extremely difficult to commute the flooded roads and traffic snarls in the city.

Due to which the student community have been put to extreme hardship, as they found it extremely difficult to commute the flooded roads and traffic snarls in the city.
“When gusty winds accompany the rains, tree falls might happen. Recently a young software engineer died when a tree crashed on him. Waterlogging might get worse when the severity of rains is more and small children are at risk of getting trapped in open manholes. Injuries might happen due to slippery roads and they might contract cold or fever due to exposure to wet conditions for long hours. It is advisable to announce a local holiday to avoid such maladies when monsoon rains are at its peak, as it now in the city" opine parents and students in one voice.
“Normal life is thrown out of gear in the city due to continuous rains and commuting to school is made all the more arduous and a Himalayan task. Traffic snarls are witnessed everywhere in the city, and every road is either clogged or waterlogged. We the parents are left clueless when we go to pick up our wards from schools” said one parent who is stranded with his two-wheeler near Gandhipuram unable to proceed to his son’s school.
“I am not able to neither drop nor pick up my son at his school as most of roads are unpassable due to continuous rains and waterlogging. The district administration should have announced a local holiday today as it is being done in Nilgiris district, where the rain situation is best tackled by the officials” complained another resident of Saibaba colony.
“The district collector is vested with enough powers to announce local holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act during such exigencies. But the callous attitude of the district administration is beyond comprehension” alleged a parent, who was totally drenched with his young daughter sitting in the pillion and traversing a narrow stretch of a road in Vadavalli.
Delayed and unreliable bus services have made life miserable for government school students who had to run hither and thither for buses. Many bus stops without shelters and damaged roofs made the students drench in rain.
“The school children attending corporation schools are the worst affected of the lot. They often have their lunch in the open due space crunch. How would they manage even taking lunch when it is raining with such intensity?” ask the parents who send their wards to Corporation schools.
“The old school buildings and walls are not a safe place to be in when it is raining so hard and for days together. It might collapse which might put the lives of the students at peril” said a parent whose ward is studying at a Corporation school.
