The Nilgiris : The Nilgiris District administration has warned travellers headed toward Nilgiris to exercise extreme caution while driving, due to heavy rains.

Due to the torrential downpour in the Nilgiris district, schools and colleges in the district have been ordered to remain closed for the fourth consecutive day. Locals and tourists have been advised to venture out cautiously, with many landslides and uprooted trees disrupting traffic flow in the region.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel as well as Government hospitals were on high alert to attend to any emergencies.

Due to the heavy downpour and strong winds, it was deemed unsafe for tourists to go boating in the Ooty Lake, and services have been temporarily suspended since Monday. Officials have also stated that water supply to Ooty town could be disrupted since uprooted trees have fallen on power transmission lines supplying electricity to the pump house in Parsons Valley.

The historic spells in the Nilgiris Ghats section has left many areas flooded, causing damages to houses and agricultural lands. In his report, the Tamil Nadu weatherman opines, "No place in South India can come close to the Nilgiris when it comes to one-day heavy spells. Not even Agumbe or Hulikal or Amagaon or Talacauvery."
