Coimbatore: A fire broke out at the blood bank of the Pollachi Government Hospital on Wednesday night leaving all collected blood units charred.
At least 65 units of blood, blood components and equipments at the blood bank of Pollachi Government hospital were destroyed, after a gas leak in the refrigerators caused a fire.

The entire hospital block was engulfed in smoke which left the patients and the attendees panic. However, no casualities were reported.

The firefighters fought nearly two hours to douse the fire. The timely intervention helped control the fire from spreading to other wards saving hundreds of lives, said the onlookers.

The police have commenced an investigation.
