The Nilgiris : In spite of heavy rains lashing the Nilgiris district, one lakh flowering plants are being planted at the Horticulture Centre and the Kattery Park near Coonoor, in preparation for the second season that is soon to begin.

The plants comprise of over 30 varieties of flowering plants including the petunia, andrenum, balsam, begonia, dianthus, pansy, salvia, alyssum, genium, marigold, French one tier and double tier Dahlia, Lakshmi Bala, Sachin, Indra which are all being planted in pots as well as in the park.
The officials from the Horticulture Centre announced that the plants will start flowering in the last week of September. "Over 58,926 tourists have visited the district between April 2019 and August 2019. Rs.10,94,500 was the estimated income gained during this tourist season. We are expecting larger crowds for the second season this year, than the last year season," they opined.
