Coimbatore: The BJP party cadres in Coimbatore were in deep mourning over the demise of party stalwart and former Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj who passed away late Tuesday night after a massive cardiac arrest. The cadres offered a floral tribute at the party office in the city.

With various political leaders cutting across all parties in India are mourning the death of Sushma Swaraj, the District President Nandakumar, State General Secretary Vanathi Srinivasan, Zonal in-charge G K Selvakumar and other office bearers paid homage to their party stalwart.
Sushma Swaraj (67) passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday night after suffering a heart attack in the evening. The senior BJP leader was brought to AIIMS at 10.15 pm and was straight away taken to the emergency ward. Her last rites are being performed at the Lodhi Road Electric Crematorium. The senior BJP leader had been receiving medical treatment for the past few years due to ill health. She did not contest in the recent parliamentary elections due to health reasons.
BJP cadres noted that the loss of Sushma Swaraj was irreplaceable and that she was always friendly with other party members too. It is to be noted that Sushma Swaraj was deeply concerned about the rehabilitation of the Sri Lankan Tamils. Sushma Swaraj was an important link between the BJP Government and the people. Many political observers viewed Swaraj as a challenger to PM Narendra Modi in the initial months of the previous tenure of the Government. However, she adjusted to the role and gave the External Affairs Ministry a human face and was also the troubleshooter for any Indian stuck anywhere abroad. She took a personal interest in resolving minor issues like issuance of visas to the needy and getting relief across to Indians in distress. She built an Indian human capital abroad and the response was evident in the outpouring of support for the Modi government from the Non-Resident Indian community.
Sushma Swaraj was known as a feisty woman who did not fear taking on any government or from voicing her strong opinions against her opponents. From threatening to shave off her head if Sonia Gandhi became the Prime Minister to laying the foundation for the abolishment of Article 370, Sushma Swaraj is remembered for playing many roles. However, this generation would forever remember her as the MP who opened up a humane side of the current regime with her famous Twitter humour.
