Coimbatore: A very ambitious on-road expedition to create awareness on cervical cancer is all set to be flagged off tomorrow from here.
The 21,000 kms road trip to St. Petersburg in Russia is an initiative of R.R Trust to spread awareness on prevention of cervical cancer.
Eight zealous people led by Meenakshi Arvind, an avid traveller will drive down 21,000 kms, across 7 countries to St. Petersberg in Russia.
This expedition focuses solely on creating awareness on women's health and in particular prevention of cervical cancer.
The crew comprises of Meenakshi Aravind, Sharath Madhav, Pradeep Yuvaraj, Jomat Mani, Anjana Kaul, Sanjay Subbaiyan, Sheela Varghese and Madhuri Sapru.
The expedition will cover important cities and villages India, Nepal, China, Tibet and Russia. The awareness drive will be completed in the first week of October.
Meenakshi Arvind, who leads this aspiring team is an avid traveller and has headed several expeditions in the past. Notably, she led the expedition XPD 2470 to London with two other woman through road to spread the word of literacy.
Cervical Cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women. It is caused by a virus called human papilloma which attacks the cervix. According to a survey, In India, in every 8 minutes one woman dies because of cervical cancer.
