As many as 1075 buses have been operated by TNSTC (Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation) Coimbatore division. Town buses ply in the city, while Mofussil buses operate in Tirupur, Erode and Nilgiri sections.
It has been alleged that ticket inspectors who are checking passengers travelling in Government buses inside and outside the bus stands have been behaving rudely with the passengers. It has become a routine for them to use abusive words irrespective of the age of the passengers.
Meanwhile, in a recent incident, a ticket collector tried to kick an elderly passenger without even considering his age, which provoked many onlookers.
The incident happened around 6.20 pm yesterday at the Gandhipuram bus stand. A 70 years old man got down of the bus number 5, TN 38 N 3002 along with his wife and relatives.
When the ticket inspector Udumalai Ravi, asked for tickets, the old man had said that his wife had got the tickets.
The ticket inspector then verbally abused the older man and alleged that he was in an inebriated state. The journalists who happened to be nearby have videographed the entire incident. The ticket inspector behaved rudely with the journalists when they questioned his intimidating behaviour towards an older person.
After some time the ticket inspector, however, tried to flee the area.
The journalists took up the matter with TNSTC higher officials but the officials were in no mood to listen to the ill-treatment meted out to an old passenger.
The travelling public at least expects that the TNSTC crew and officials should respect the passengers and should not treat them in a ham-handed manner like in the case of an old victim.
