Coimbatore: The hamlet of Panapalli in the Anaikatti Hills which is inhabited by over 80 tribal villagers had reason to rejoice when uninterrupted electricity supply was finally made available when the transformer that was set up recently became operational from Monday.

Even as electricity lit the hamlet of Panapalli at about 5.45 pm, a huge cheer broke out among the villagers. The overjoyed villagers had endured many years of interrupted electricity supply through the single phase line provided for the village from the transformer in Kondanur Pudhur.

The villagers had earlier complained that the electricity provided through the single phase was faulty, and cited how even recharging a mobile device was not possible. Children in the village had reportedly gone through a tough time preparing for exams owing to erratic power supply.

Following continuous complaints from the village, officials of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) had begun to set up an exclusive transformer for the village about two years ago. However, it could not be completed for various reasons. The work finally resumed on July 20 and uninterrupted power supply was finally restored from Monday evening.

TANGEDCO officials including Balasubramaniam, Dheiva Sigamani, Devarajan, ex ward member Palanisamy and all the villagers participated in the event.
