Namakkal: In a remarkable act of bravery, fire service personnel from Tiruchengode division on Saturday saved the life of father and son duo from being washed away in the river Cauvery, during Aadi 18 celebrations.

On Saturday, a large number of people had gathered at the Pazhayapalayam bank near Patlur, Tiruchengode to offer their prayers for the departed souls.The festive mood transformed into a tragedy, after Thriumoorthy and his son Krishnan (9), a resident of Pazhayapalayam were washed away by the swift currents, while bathing in the river.
An alert firefighter, Mohan who was on duty noticed their plight and immediately jumped into the river to save them.
Soon, a team of firefighters from Tiruchengode fire station rushed to the spot and joined Mohan in the rescue operation.
After a tough struggle, the father and son duo were rescued from the river and were brought to the shore.
A firefighter performed CPR to the boy and administered first aid to Thirumoorthy and rushed them to a primary health center nearby.
Sivakumar, Officer at Tiruchengodu Fire Station in an exclusive interview with Simplicity said "On the occasion of Aadi 18, our firefighter's team were deployed in four places in the bounds of Thiruchengodu for rescue operations. Near the Patlur region, one of our firefighter Mohan noticed that the father and son duo were being washed away. His presence of mind to inform our team first before he risked his life and jumped into the river to save them is laudable. Upon receiving the information, the entire team reached the spot within minute."
He said that he is proud of his team - Govindasamy, Mohan, Satheesh Kumar, Durairaj who risked their lives in saving the life of the father and son. He then commended his team for administering the father and son duo without further delay.
The spectacular act of bravery displayed by the firefighters and their presence of mind was highly praised by the hundreds of public who witnessed the heroic rescue operation.
