Coimbatore : Police nabbed the migrant worker who had robbed Rs. 2.7 crores worth of jewels and cash from a Mill owner’s house at Racecourse road before making good his escape a few days back.
Sailesh Ethiraj from Race course road is a spinning mill owner. Sailesh and his the family members had left for Bangalore after entrusting his house to his loyal servant Vikas Kumar Rai from Jharkhand who was working as domestic help.
When Sailesh and his family returned from Bangalore on July 28th they found out that jewellery and cash worth about Rs.2.7 crore were found missing from their house and Vikas Kumar Rai’s whereabouts were not known
Following a formal complaint from Sailesh Ethiraj, the Police registered the case and formed special teams to look out and catch the servant from Jharkhand.
The sniffer dog Wilma which was pressed into service pointed towards to the Coimbatore Railway Station. While checking the CCTV footage at the Railway junction it was found out that Vikash Kumar Rai had escaped by boarding the Ernakulam-Patna train at 9:30 pm on the day of the crime.
Following which, the Police department in Bankura district in West Bengal and, Superintendent of Police Koteeswara and Railway police officers were alerted immediately by Coimbatore police.
A special team formed by the SP Koteeswara rounded up Vikash Kumar Rai from his hideout and arrested him in dramatic fashion.
The culprit was brought to Coimbatore and all the looted jewellery and cash were recovered from him. He was produced in court and remanded in custody.
Police Commissioner Sumit Saran and Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order) Prasanna Balaji has appreciated the diligent efforts of the police team which made the breakthrough arrest within days of the crime.
