The Nilgiris : Surpassing the threats posed by elephants and leopards, the increased wild boar movement in the foothills of Marudhamalai has left the devotees and passers-by jittery.

Devotees from various parts throng the Marudhamalai Temple, the seventh abode of Lord Murugan. Due to the temple's proximity to the Western Ghats, many wild animals including elephants, leopard, deer and wild boars stray in the foothills and the adjoining residential areas.

Apparently, the wild boars which roam in the foothills during nights have begun to venture even in daytime. The boars feed on the food disposed by the devotees on the way to the temple, especially near the government law college.

"At times, the wild boars get aggressive and chase the passers-by. As they run recklessly across the roads, they tend to cause accidents", allege the public.

The public have urged the forest department to take necessary measures to tackle the increased movement of wild boars in the temple area, especially during daytime.
