Coimbatore : In the review meeting held by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Edapaddi K Palaniswami on Friday, it has been decided that TN will accept Kerala's offer of 20 lakh litres of water.
"We have decided to accept water from Kerala and are thankful to the CM, Pinarayi Vijayan. It will be great if they can give us 2 mld (million litre per day) every day," stated the TN Chief Minister. He said that deficient monsoon had resulted in depletion of groundwater levels in the State but the situation was not as bad as portrayed by the media.
The TN CM clarified that it was owing to poor health that he could not reply to Pinarayi Vijayan but reports were published saying that the TN Government had turned down the offer by the Kerala Government. Kerala was prepared to transport 20 lakh litres of drinking water from Thiruvananthapuram to Chennai through train.
The Opposition leader, M K Stalin of the DMK has also thanked the Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan for the offer and urged the Tamil Nadu Government to work alongside neighbouring States to tackle the present water crisis in Tamil Nadu.
