MLA Amman Arjunan and Video Spectrum MD Selvaraj will be inaugurating the opening show, tomorrow. There will be three shows at 1 pm, 3 pm and 7 pm respectively, with tickets priced at Rs. 100, Rs. 200, Rs. 300 and Rs. 400 with all necessary facilities being made available for visitors to enjoy the shows. The seating capacity at the VOC Park will be about 1500 and those who wish to book their tickets earlier can do so at [email protected] Over 150 circus artists are expected to perform at the Jumbo Circus.
The Jumbo Circus which began in 1977 pioneered the introduction of world class Russian Artistes in the Indian Circus and heralded the new era of Indo-Soviet Cultural exchange. The death-defying acts during the launch performance at Calcutta in December 1994 had created a sensation in the media to the extent that it was strongly felt that the Circus industry was on a comeback trail ! Jumbo had always stood to its name as it has the largest circus troupe in India presenting entertainment with high standards in the past three decades. The highlight of the Jumbo Circus will be the African Troupe whose dare devil acrobatic acts include the Formation of Human Pyramids, Limbo Dance and Fire Eating, Pole Acrobatics and Contortion where the performer showcases remarkable flexibility.
The other highlights will be the acrobatics done on a rope which is hung from the roof of the tent which includes some remarkable body bending acts and some graceful acrobatics in midair hanging on a ribbon cloth. The Russian Trampoline Net, the Clown's antics and the various enthralling acts by the mobile zoo of horses, camels, dogs and rare birds like the scarlet macaw, the blue and yellow macaw, moluccan cockatoos will be a veritable treat for both young and old.
