Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu: S P Velumani, the Minister of Municipal Administration and Rural Development has withdrawn the case filed against the DMK Chief, M K Stalin for his "defamatory speech" against S P Velumani while speaking at an election rally in Coimbatore.

During the heat of election campaigns, M K Stalin had accused Minister S P Velumani saying, "“Velumani tops the list of corrupt leaders in the State. We have collected enough evidence against him and we can prove his involvement in corruption. We won’t submit the evidence to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) now. After we come to power, DVAC will arrest Velumani. Our first task will be to send Velumani to jail.” Stalin also heaped other damaging claims on the Minister going so far as to allege that SP Velumani is attempting to protect the accused of the Pollachi sexual abuse case. He alleged that the CB-CID police were diluting the case to favour the ruling party. He also alleged that the Minister was unethically allotting tenders worth Rs. 100 crore to his own family members.
Miffed over these allegations, the Minister had filed a case against MK Stalin who was booked on April 5 for his alleged defamatory remarks against the Tamil Nadu Minister SP Velumani. In his suit, Velumani sought Rs 1 crore from Stalin and DMK for the damages caused to him as a result of the defamatory speech against the Minister on April 4. Velumani said that Stalin had made baseless and unsubstantiated charges against him. Velumani had also moved the High Court to pass a gag order on M K Stalin which was dismissed.
The case went up for hearing today in the presence of Justice R Subramaniam but S P Velumani said he would like to withdraw the case and hence the case was dismissed.
