Coimbatore: In order to clear out encroachments occupying water bodies in the Corporation limits, the Coimbatore City Municpal Corporation (CCMC) has been clearing out encroachments over the last two years. Muthannan Kulam's 1800 houses are next in line for eviction.
CCMC had evicted a few houses in 0ctober 2018, but owing to a bigger number of houses that need to be evicted, the CCMC is planning to evict households in a phased manner. Residents have been allotted houses at Malumichampatty, Kovaipudur and Keeranatham by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board. Notices will be issued in the coming days, advising residents to move to the allotted houses.

Encroachments along the major water bodies including Vellalore tank, Perur peria kulam, Rajavaikkal and Ukkadam have already been removed. Thus far, nearly 2840 houses which were occupying water bodies that were under CCMC limits have been evicted throughout the city. Evicted residents were allotted houses at various locations by the Slum Clearance Board.
