The city police commissioner has denied permission to DMK MLA, N. Karthick who proposed to stage a massive protest along with his party members and public in front of CCMC demanding resignation of Minister S.P. Velumani and against awarding 24x 7 water supply contract to Suez.
According to the MLA , "The mismanagement by CCMC and Suez are responsible for the ongoing water shortage crisis in Coimbatore. Hence, we are demanding the resignation of Minister S. P. Velumani and immediate withdrawal of the contract awarded to Suez."
He has also confirmed that he would go ahead with the protest as planned at 10 am in front of the CCMC along with his party cadres and public. "Around 1000 people will take part", the MLA said.
Meanwhile, citing Supreme Court orders that bans protests on National Highways, the City Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan has denied permission to the protest. In a communication sent by the Commissioners office it was mentioned that protests are not permitted in front of CCMC and the area adjoining the corporation building as it is on the National Highways.
