The Backward Class and Scheduled Class Welfare Department in its press release has announced that applications for the intake of students for the academic year 2019- 20 from schools, colleges, ITI and Diplomas are being issued in the respective hostels and also in the Backward Class and Scheduled Class Welfare Department at the District Collectorate.

The Government manages 29 hostels in Coimbatore, out of which five hostels are for male college students, two hostels for female college students, one hostel for male ITI students, 15 hostels for school boys and six hostels for school girls.
All students will be provided with free stay and food in these Government hostels. School students from Classes 4 to 10 will receive a mat and a blanket per year, and an extra set of uniform, free. The eligibility to join these hostels for school-going students is that their family income must be below a lakh and for college students the criteria for family income needs to be below 2 lakhs. For male students to occupy these hostels, the educational institution they are in must be over 8 km in distance. There is no criteria for distance for female students.
The filled-in application must be submitted to the hostel wardens before June 24 for school students and before June 30 for college students.
