Coimbatore: The Siddha Doctors Association petitioned the District Collector requesting protection for their professional independence, in the wake of a Siddha doctor being blamed for the death of Sathyapriya (20), the Government Arts College student who died yesterday.
Coimbatore: The Siddha Doctors Association petitioned the District Collector requesting protection for their professional independence, in the wake of a Siddha doctor being blamed for the death of Sathyapriya (20), the Government Arts College student who died yesterday.
The Association alleged that Sathyapriya had died due to menstruation issues. The parents and relatives of Sathyapriya blamed the Siddha doctor Gurunathan of Manonmani Siddha Vaidya Salai at Selvapuram for her death and filed a complaint against the doctor. The kin and students from Government Arts College also staged road rokos.
This incident is said to have caused a stir among Siddha doctors in the city. Over 100 doctors approached the District Collectorate to request professional freedom and security to practice the traditional Siddha medicine. They stated that Sathyapriya was prescribed with certified medicines and was warned not to take allopathy medicines along with it. The Siddha doctors claimed in their petition that the reason for Sathyapriya's death was not the Siddha treatment administered by the doctor and requested the Collector to provide them with necessary protection to freely continue practising Siddha medicine.
Sathyapriya's kin claim that she died of complications after the alleged quack administered her faulty ‘treatment’ for her health issues.
