Coimbatore: In the recent tragedy involving a Government Arts College student, Sathya Priya (20) who succumbed to wrong treatment administered by a Siddha doctor from a private Siddha Hospital in Selvapuram.
Coimbatore: In the recent tragedy involving a Government Arts College student, Sathya Priya (20) who succumbed to wrong treatment administered by a Siddha doctor from a private Siddha Hospital in Selvapuram.
Her friends and fellow students from the college staged a protest today demanding the arrest of the doctor and the Selvapuram Inspector who failed to take action against the doctor in spite of a legal complaint being lodged at the Selvapuram police station on May 1.
Sathyapriya was taken to Manonmani Siddha Hospital by her parents Ganesan and Malliga who hailed from Netaji Nagar in Kovaipudur. Influenced by the rampant TV commercials and following the advice of their relatives, Sathyapriya consulted the hospital with regard to her irregular menstrual cycles and was advised a course of medicine for six months. With her health deteriorating after being on the medication for a while, she was admitted in the Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment.
Doctors at GH informed the family that the illness was due to the wrong treatment given by the Siddha doctor. In spite of the formal complaint being lodged at the Selvapuram police station against the Siddha doctor, the police reportedly failed to take any action. Thereafter, the family filed a complaint at the Commissioner's office on May 31.
Sathya Priya died yesterday and her shocked and furious relatives protested in front of the Government Hospital seeking justice for their daughter and condemning lack of action by the Selvapuram police station Inspector. They demanded immediate arrest of the doctor and closure of the Siddha hospital. Later, police arrived at the spot and convinced the relatives to abandon the protest by promising appropriate action against the concerned hospital.
