USEA census reveals 440 children skipped school in Nilgiris District

The Nilgiris : The United School Education Association's (USEA) census taken in the past 54 days reveals that 440 children ranging from ages 6 to 18 have not attended school as per the census taken during April and May, in the Nilgiris district.


The Nilgiris : The United School Education Association's (USEA) census taken in the past 54 days reveals that 440 children ranging from ages 6 to 18 have not attended school as per the census taken during April and May, in the Nilgiris district. 

The census was taken in 1578 areas in Ooty, Coonoor, Kotagiri and Gudalur to ascertain the number of children who have not attended school, discontinued, were differently-abled children or parents had migrated. 

The Education Department stated that 110 children were from tribal communities, SC/ST communities and some from Northern states like Jharkhand and Orissa. In total, 440 children were found to have skipped school in Nilgiris district. 

District Education Officer Ambikabathy said that these children will be directly admitted into their respective classes and in case of discontinued studies, special supplementary classes will be provided to help them continue their education.
