Nondimedu Nehru Nagar which comes under the Ooty Panchayat houses over 1000 residents who are mostly daily wage employees working from dawn to dusk. Their only source of water is from the Ooty Panchayat. Owing to the hilly terrain, the area does not have wells or tanks to store water. Usually, they are supplied with drinking water, once in five days by the Panchayat. But lately, the area has bot been provided with drinking water for over 15 days.

The irate Nehru Nagar residents which included both men and women thus resorted to staging a road roko on the new Ooty-Coonoor road, causing traffic to come to a complete standstill. On information, the police arrived at the spot. DSP Thangavel and other police officers convinced the protestors that the issue would be dealt with immediately.
The demonstrators also urged the authorities to provide them with drinking water from the Parsons Valley Reservoir, daily. Accepting their demands, Engineer Ravi promised that immediate action would be taken to address the water woes of Nehru Nagar.
