Coimbatore: With regard to 435 new applications submitted for the permission of stone quarries in Muduthurai region in Karamadai, the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association submitted a petition to the District Collector to deny permission stating that the region already had many quarries.

They also alleged that farming is being severely affected due to these quarries and even houses are developing cracks owing to quarry activity.

The farmers also alleged that the quarries caused a great deal of inconvenience to people and domestic animals. Citing the ever-increasing number of people inhabiting the region, the farmers requested the District Collector to deny permission to the applications submitted which sought permission for more quarries.
