About 300 doctors led by Senthil Kumar, the leader of the District Medical Association, Secretary Rajkumar, Treasurer Ramesh Bommai Samy participated in the dharna. As part of a 24-hour strike in support of seeking protection for doctors in hospital premises, over 1000 doctors working in 450 hospitals in Tiruppur District struck work, today.
Condemning the incident where Junior doctor Paribaha Mukhopadhyay and Yash Tekwani were beaten up at the NRS Medical College, Kolkata, protests spread across the medical fraternity in West Bengal and gradually, all over the country. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had warned doctors to resume services or face stern action. Doctors from all over the country are on strike today against the violence on the doctors who were attacked by the enraged family of a patient, who died on June 10.
Doctors are demanded the arrest of the relatives involved in the assault and are also seeking the Government to pass an Act that will ensure safety of medical practitioners in hospital premises across the country.
