Coimbatore: Forest personnel of the Periyanaickenpalayam Forest Range on Sunday arrested two men for hunting wild boar using country made bomb on patta land near the foothills of the Western Ghats at Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Forest officials of the Periyanaickenpalayam Forest Range on Sunday arrested two men for hunting a wild boar using a country-made bomb near the foothills of the Western Ghats at Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore.
The men have been identified as P Kumar (38) from Gudalur Goundampalayam and M Arumugam (51) from Thirumalainaickenpalayam.
According to the foresters, a team led by Range Officer Suresh were on patrol along the boundary at about 10.30 pm on Sunday. During their rounds, they chanced upon two men at a Naickerthottam farmland in Gudalur Goundampalayam. The men were reportedly carrying a mysterious bag.
The team of foresters immediately rounded them up and on investigation it was found that they were carrying meat of wild boar that was hunted using a country bomb. They had planted the bomb in a farm nearby and the animal had bitten it, dying on the spot. The men were immediately booked under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and fined a sum of Rs. 20,000 each.
