Coimbatore: About 45 protestors were arrested today for staging a protest at the Collectorate without prior permission.
The protestors had initially gathered to petition the District Collector to take action alleged that the Kurinji Chitfund Mullai Jewellery on 100 feet road which had promised to double the money invested into the company. They complained that over 1000 people had been cheated of more than 500 crores by the fraudulent company.

It is alleged that Kurinji refused to pay the investors stating that he was close to the present Education Minister and had a strong political background and hence would not be punished. He had also threatened them using henchmen, they added. The distressed victims thus laid siege to the jewellery shop on 100 feet road, but later dispersed after the police reassured them that proper action would be taken against the the owner of Kurinji Chitfund.

Later, the petitioners who had gathered at the District Collectorate began protesting in front of the Collectorate urging the Collector to take action against the fraudulent company and help them recover their money.

But since the protest was done without prior permission, all 45 protestors were arrested by the police.
