Coimbatore : The Sunday morning got more meaningful at Marudham Nagar here, as the streets and playground wore a green look after the residents joined hands with 'Nizhal Mayiam' team and planted tree saplings.
Understanding the imperative situation of water crisis and the need to increase the green cover in urban areas, the residents of Marudham Nagar in Edayarpalayam here joined hands to contribute their bit for the degrading environment. They identified vacant lands, play ground and other suitable places in their residential colony for planting tree saplings which was accomplished today.
The volunteers of Nizhal Mayiam aided the residents in choosing the right species of trees suitable for the land. Native tree species like Pungai, Neem, Ashoka and others were planted and thoroughly fenced to prevent from damages and cattle.
The planted saplings were named after the resident who planted them. The residents responsible for the tree also vowed to take care of it. Ahead of the tree planting drive, the residents have arrived at economical solutions for watering the plants.
The residents felicitated the Nizhal Mayiam ream for their concerted efforts.
