The Nilgiris : For the past two days, nine elephants along with a calf has been straying into the Runnymede railway track in Coonoor. After the railway staff alerted the foresters, they have commenced to chase the herd into the forest.
The Nilgiris : For the past two days, nine elephants along with a calf has been straying into the Runnymede railway track in Coonoor. After the railway staff alerted the foresters, they have commenced to chase the herd into the forest.
"Abundant availability of seasonal fruits like jackfruit, pears and bamboo along the Runnymede railway track has lured the Elephants to camp there", say the forest officials.
Four field staff were deputed along the route to ensure the elephant herd doesn't interrupt the rail movement. The staff banged drums to chase away the herd into the forests. After continued efforts, the herd was chased finally into the Burliyar forest range.
